I'm Emily & this is my personal inspiration blog. I'm an English teacher living in Cincinnati, Ohio. I like owls, patterns, typography, thrift shops, writing on post-its, making lists (that never get completed), reading in bed, taking pictures of my cat Atlas, & living my life as fully as possible on a daily basis. For the next few weeks (or until I run out of ideas), I am going to be making posts around the theme of “My favorite things about summer are…”. You know, kind of like when you went back to school as a kid & the first thing your teacher would make you do is write an essay about “What I did on summer vacation”. Something like that anyway.
So to start it off, one of the things I love about summer is corn on the cob! I am a corn on the cob fiend. So you can imagine my utter delight when I came across this print by Andrea Heimer. it’s just perfect & reminds me of the absolute euphoria of biting into the perfect piece of corn on the cob with just the right amount of butter-salt ratio. Mmmmm, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it!
I am loving all things bright & beautiful lately. As a result, here is a collection of a few very colorful, very lovely items that I’ve found this afternoon.
The home of talented fabric designer Amy Butler really caught my eye this afternoon while perusing the internet for inspiring interiors. Their home is situated not too terribly far from myself in Granville, Ohio. Amy’s husband David describes their style as “kinda modern-organic-primitive”. Interesting description. All I know is that it is simply beautiful & just the sort of inspiration I was looking for to get my creativity flowing today.
I am sure this bed has made the blog rounds by now but I love it too much to not post about it! I’m swooning, you guys. Swooning. Designed by Shawn Lovell, this whimsical tree bed will cost you a (not-so-whimsical) $15,000; so obviously it’s out of quite a few people’s price range. Thus, I must continue swooning in vain whilst sleeping in my dismal, boring metal framed bed. Life is just so cruel sometimes. Just think of what lovely dreams you would have sleeping in a bed like that!
It also reminds me of one of my favorite songs called “Asleep in the Forest” by Unwed Sailor. It’s magical. Listen to it while looking at the bed & tell me it’s not perfect:
Good to know. Really. Thank you, etsy seller/shop, Suspect Shoppe, for reminding me in such a charming way that I am really quite alright. I kind of think I need this print to hang over my desk or in the kitchen where I can read it every day. Or perhaps it would be the perfect gift for that overreacting co-worker /mother-in-law /neighbor /spouse /child /friend /sibling /etc. You can buy this print here for $25.
{Sorry I can’t recall where I first saw this print or else I’d give proper credit!}
This is where I want to live. It looks so beautiful, while still totally livable. This wooden beach house in Maitencillo, Chili has me dreaming of moving somewhere that I can always hear the waves lapping against the shore. Just think about waking up to a deck like that to watch the sunrise. And, would you just look at those walls? Go here to view bigger & more photographs.
I’m loving these awesome customized shoes by Luke Best that he created for an exhibit show. They were designed to resemble school gym floors. So clever, no? Also, check out the rest of Luke’s artwork. It’s quite amazing.
Chosenstock is having a huge sale event right now through August 20. If I understand correctly, every week they will take an additional 10% off their entire stock. Right now, in week two, everything is 40% off. Everything’s going quick, so hurry & get them while they are still available.
Another place you should visit if you happened to find yourself in Austin is Hey Cupcake! As you can see from the pictures, it’s a cupcake stand. Not only is it an adorable idea, it was the best cupcake I’ve ever had! If you go, I would recommend the red velvet cupcake– that’s what I got. But, I am sure whatever you get will be equally delicious. Who doesn’t love a good cupcake?
